Philosophy and Mission

  • To promote a love of music and music making by helping students learn to express themselves beyond notes and rhythm
  • To promote a love of the process of learning music
  • To prepare the student for further study at the late intermediate level and beyond

Location

CLUB PIANO JR. is located in Paradise Valley off of Scottsdale and Doubletree Ranch Roads

Student Responsibilities

  • Arrive to lessons on time, well prepared with all lesson materials. Be aware you have reserved a time slot. If you arrive 5 minutes late your lesson is 5 minutes shorter.
  • Practice! You are required to practice 6 days a week for proper progress.
  • Participate in Club Piano Jr. activities. Youth students will participate in a minimum of two performances and four Keyboard Gymnastics Events per year. Students will also have performance opportunities through the Phoenix Music Teachers Association (PMTA) if desired.

Parent Responsibilities

  • Be helpful, interested and supportive! My role is to teach. Yours is to be a cheerleader!
  • Provide an acoustic piano, tuned yearly. Digital keyboards are acceptable provided they have 88 weighted keys.
  • Provide a metronome, 3 ring binder and repertoire/method books. Photo copied music is illegal and is not permitted unless music is no longer in print or we have permission from the copyright owner.
  • Set aside a regular practice time each day to develop self-discipline and good practice habits (this can be done all at once or divided into multiple sessions). Young children will need daily help from parents.
  • Provide a practice environment free from distractions.
  • Be financially responsible. Pay tuition on time.
  • Check your child’s notebook for pertinent information.
  • Drop off/pick up promptly before and after lessons.
  • Parents are welcome to attend lessons. Please do not bring additional children unless they can sit quietly by your side.
  • Communicate any questions or concerns promptly. Be aware that there is likely a student  before or after your child. Be respectful of other student’s lesson times.

Registration Fee

Each youth student will be charged a $150 registration fee in July to secure their time slot for the year and pay for materials and fees that will be required during the year. The registration fee includes:

  • practice rebates (possible $68 value)
  • lending library
  • TCW Theory book ($20)
  • Keyboard Gymnastics registration fees and events ($75)
  • Incentives and prizes ($40-$50)
  • Recitals
  • PMTA Ensemble

Tuition

  • Tuition is $900 per term per student. The year is divided into two terms:
    • Fall:      August - December
    • Spring:  January - May
  • Tuition includes 34 lessons for the year, 28 private and 6 group. Private lessons are 45 minutes and group lessons are one hour. Group lessons enhance the private lesson and are held in lieu of the private lesson on group weeks.
  • Tuition may be paid in a one time payment at the beginning of each term via Venmo, check or cash or may be divided into five equal payments of $180 per student due on or before the first lesson of each month. Families opting to pay monthly can use automatic bill pay from their financial institution or can provide the entire term’s monthly payments in post-dated checks. Tuition is non-refundable and is payable whether the student attends or not.

Adult Students

  • Adult students may opt to purchase lessons a la carte, scheduling a week at a time at $55 per 45 minute lesson. Adult students may participate in any of the youth student activities.

Music Lending Library

  • The lending library adds variety to student repertoire. This music will be supplementary only. All students will still be required to provide their own method books. The lending library gives students access to a wide selection of music without the added expense of acquiring music for one-time events. Students may check out music as often as necessary, but must agree to not photocopy copyrighted material. Music must be returned in good condition. Damaged music will be replaced by the student.

Practicing

  • Students are expected to get six days of FULL practice each week. In the event of vacation, illness, etc., students can practice extra to make up for missed practice sessions. Please no more than one double session per week.
  • Full practice is defined as completing each assignment perfectly a specified number of times each day. Perfect practice requirements will be outlined in the student’s notebook and are to be marked each day. Full practice will be demonstrated by progress made during the previous week and will be determined by the teacher.
  • Every 30 minutes spent on music theory will count for one day of practice.
  • Piano lessons do not count toward practice days.
  • The following holidays that fall during our piano year are practice free days:
    • Halloween
    • Thanksgiving
    • Easter
    • The student’s birthday

Awards and Incentive Programs

  • Youth students have the opportunity to earn music money each week at their lessons to be spent on prizes or cash. Music Money must be spent by the end of the year.
  • Students who obtain perfect practice each week will receive $100 in music money. To qualify, students MUST show progress, as determined by the teacher, and fill in their practice logs. A $1 coin will be given each week to students showing exceptional practice.

Performance Opportunities

  • There are several performance opportunities throughout the year. All youth students are expected to perform at least twice. Out of courtesy to all performers, plan to stay for the entire recital. This teaches respect toward the efforts of all performers, allows students to listen to the achievements of others, and expands and broadens students’ knowledge of repertoire. Recitals will not exceed one hour. Please leave children ages four and younger at home to ensure the best performance environment for all performers.

Terminating Lessons

  • Students will be evaluated in May to determine if the student is still a good fit for CLUB PIANO JR. The teacher may terminate lessons due to negative behavior, failure to practice, failure to attend committed events or failure to comply with studio etiquette. Terminating lessons before the end of the piano year (August - May) must be by mutual agreement between the teacher and parent. Any termination initiated by the parent or student requires one month written and paid tuition notice.
